The Centre

The Centre for Catholic Bible Studies presents speakers of note and in good standing with the Church. The Centre was formed in 2014 to continue the Catholic Bible Seminar series, initiated by the Centre of Jesus and Mary in 1996 under the personal blessing of former Archbishop Adam Exner.

The Catholic Bible Seminar is the core activity organized and held by The Centre of Catholic Bible Studies.

Who We Are

Fr. James Nisbet

Father Jim Nisbet, a retired diocesan priest and Biblical Scholar, has visited Vancouver, BC and has presented at over 30 seminar sessions at about a dozen parishes in the Lower Mainland.

During his 40 years of parish ministry and continuing in his retirement, Fr. Jim teaches parishioners, prisoners, seminarians, and university students. A much requested speaker, he has brought his Scriptural insights, factual information, and humor to workshops and conferences on four continents.

Holy Scripture is Father’s personal passion. Ordained in 1969, he received his education at the Universities of San Diego, St. Paul’s Pontifical University in Ottawa and the Graduate Theological Seminary in Berkley, California.

In this ministry, Father Nisbet has taught Scripture to parishioners, seminarians, prisoners and university students.  He has spoken at many Conferences, and given parish missions in both Canada and the USA.

Having made over forty visits to the Middle East, Father has acquired an in- depth knowledge of the Hebrew Religion, culture, tradition and mindset, as well as of the socio-economic and political conditions existing there at the time Jesus lived among us. When Scripture is presented in this context, our faith comes-alive as it were and a deeper understanding results.

The Seminar is a must for all Bible students. Here is a sampling:
